Selecting the B&B That Fits You
Over the past year most of my posts have been either Inn specials or Annapolis events but during that time many guest have shared their frustration with selecting lodging that fits their style. So, I decided to post a few pointers.
Most people with their schedules tend to select a hotel chain since there is a familiarity with the chain. In doing that, you can loose the ability to get a real feel for the town, front desk staff is usually not a vested individual who can direct you to what you are really looking for, and rarely are hotels in the heart of the town. So, in selecting accommodations, especially a Bed and Breakfast, here are some things to consider.
First - do a little research. Use sites like Trip Advisor, Yelp, Bed and Breakfast.com. These sites have unbiased reviews and also provide links to other local venues. Be sure you verify the location. Many establishments list they are in a specific area but frequently are not which requires using a car or taking a cab to get around. You may find a good rate but you're going to make up for it in transportation and parking.
Second-verify they have easy access to parking. Some establishments have parking at local parking lots at a reduced cost and hotels usually have parking at an additional cost. You're best bet is on-site parking.
Third-decide what is a necessity to you. For example, WiFi, TV, full breakfast vs. Continental, etc. Verify there is no charge for access to the internet.
Last-don't use online reservations (if available). By speaking directly to a person you will get a feel for the place through the conversation.
Keep it simple - follow these four steps and you're guaranteed to have a great stay.
